Certification mark
If you have seen this mark on a company's website, on a report, or in an email signature, this page is the answer to the obvious question. It explains what the mark certifies, who is entitled to display it, how long that lasts, and how anyone can check a particular one in seconds.
One for each of the two certifications IEU issues, and the level named on each is what tells them apart.
Certifies one individual. The mark an AI Level 2 Certified individual may display, while that certification is valid.
Certifies one company. The mark an AI Level 3 Certified company may display, while that certification is valid.
A Level 2 certification belongs to a person. A Level 3 certification belongs to a company. The marks follow their certificates.
Issued to a person, after that person completes IEU's training and passes the final exam. It certifies what they have been taught and tested on. The person displays the mark: on a profile, in a signature, on a CV.
A holder may choose to name their organization when they enrol, in which case the certificate and the registry entry name it too. The certification is still the individual's, and naming an employer does not extend it to them.
Issued to a company, after a human-led audit of how that organization governs its use of AI against a published standard. The company displays the mark.
It is the only IEU mark that says anything about an organization. What it asserts, and the requirements behind it, are set out in the AI Level 3 standard.
Employing someone who is AI Level 2 Certified does not certify the company. That certification belongs to the individual and says nothing about the organization's own AI governance, its policies, or its systems. A company that presents the AI Level 2 Certification mark as its own certification is misrepresenting what IEU certified.
The certification that applies to a company is AI Level 3 Certification, and its registry entry names the company rather than a person. If you are looking at a mark on an organization's website and want to know which of the two it is, the registry will tell you.
The mark is a picture. The registry is the proof.
Nothing in the artwork can tell you whether a certification is current, and an image can be copied by anyone. What makes the mark worth anything is the entry behind it: every currently-valid IEU certification has one in the public registry, and a certification that expires or is revoked leaves the registry at the same moment. So a mark is a claim, and the registry is where the claim is settled.
For exactly as long as the certification behind it, which is one year.
An IEU certificate is valid for one year from the day it is issued. The right to display the mark runs with it and ends automatically when the certificate expires or is revoked. There is no separate notice and nothing to withdraw: the registry entry stops appearing the moment the certificate stops being valid, and the holder stops using the mark.
That is also why a mark on an old page proves nothing on its own. It was accurate when it was placed there, and only the registry can say whether it still is.

What is published for each level is one PNG image. There is no vector version and no reversed version for dark backgrounds, so the mark should be placed on a light one, where its navy and gold read as they were drawn. Detailed artwork guidance, including clear space and minimum size, is not published yet.

A certification is worth what it excludes as much as what it asserts.
An AI Level 2 Certification mark speaks to what one person has been trained and tested on. It says nothing about the systems their employer runs, the products it sells, or the data it holds.
Teaching or certifying against a published framework is not endorsement, certification, affiliation, or approval by its author or by any regulator. IEU certifies against its own published standard and speaks only for itself.
Displaying the mark does not certify an organization against ISO/IEC 42001 and does not establish compliance with the EU AI Act or any other law.
The right ends with the certificate, and the registry is what shows whether a given mark is still backed by one.
